Corey Haim, Dead at 34 - Of an “accidental drug overdose.” Link. Murphy’s Romance, Lucas, The Lost Boys, Watchers, and License to Drive - all vintage 80’s flicks. The Two Corey’s are now only one. Sadness.

Andrew “Boner” Koenig, Dead at 41
Andrew Koenig, son of original Star Trek cast member Walter Koenig (Chekov), was found dead today in of an apparent suicide Vancouver Canada. I won’t pretend to have followed Andrew’s career in-depth, or to have cared about him in any deep way, but I know someone out there did, and that makes it a tragedy.
I know I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve seen him, which sadly limits my exposure to two creative ventures. The first was the 80’s sitcom Growing Pains, in which he played Kirk Cameron’s best friend Richard “Boner” Stabone. I grew up with the show, and while Andrew wasn’t in every episode, his appearance was always welcome and memorable.
More recently I’m reminded of Andrew in Batman: Dead End, a super-fan-film released on the web in 2003 (pre YouTube), in which he played The Joker. Dead End is not your typical fan-film. It’s a high-budget, high-quality short-film, with a twist that at the time blew the collective online minds of anyone “in the know” enough to stumble upon it. Rewatching Dead End now, it holds up, and Andrew’s wicked portrayal of Batman’s nemesis can easily sit next to Heath Ledger’s take on the character in The Dark Knight. Admittedly, he’s not in the film much, but his performance aids in quickly making you believe that you are not merely watching your random low-budget fan-film - you are watching a labor of love made by a talented and devoted crew.
To bring his death around, remember that in suicide there is no coming back - and no matter how lonely you might feel in this world, there is always help if you are brave enough to ask for it.
