The Red State Sundance Smithpocalypse - On our next podcast, recorded yesterday and soon to be released, I described Kevin Smith’s planned “screen-the-flick-then-live-auction-the-rights” Sundance screening as a “cluster”. I had no idea. Watch as Smith entices every distributor in the general vicinity into the same room only to tell them their business is broken and to go pound sand, opting to buy the rights to Red State from producer John Gordon for $20 and distribute the film himself.
Meanwhile, reviews for Red State are mixed, with the most negative of the bunch loaded with more commentary on Smith’s “auction” stunt than on the film itself.

Relax, the Battlefield Earth website still exits.
An odd bit of Internet archeology: The official Warner Bros. website for 2000’s flop Battlefield Earth (a/k/a famous Scientologists with things up their noses) still exists. I highly recommend visiting the 10-year-old page for trip down Bad Memory Lane (just south of Bad Flash Animation Blvd.).
Best part: The empty CREW page still reads, “Coming Soon.”
